If you have been practicing Yoga for a few years, you don’t feel uncomfortable in half split pose, lizard lunge, or deep low lunges, then your body is likely ready for Hanumanasana, or the split. In my years of teaching, I have noticed that many students are “scared” to try the split even though they are ready.
Sure – I understand. I’m also scared to handstand even though I’m sure my body is ready.
You must never force the body into these positions, but we can over time try to gently move towards them.
Just for that, I have published a 30-minute yoga flow that you can practice to find your split.
Note: that you shouldn’t do this same flow every day but do this every third day. Give your muscles and fascia at least 24-48 hours to recover.
Don’t force yourself to completely straighten your legs. It is healthier for your joints if you keep a tiny bend in your knees so that you don’t hyperextend them.
Grab a few blocks or pillows to make your flow more comfortable. Enjoy the journey to full splits and make it fun. If you have any kind of “sharp” pain, please stop immediately.
Try it and let me know in the comments if it worked for you.
